Meet Our Doctors
Dr. John Houston
John graduated from Monash University, Melbourne Victoria in 1985. He has practised medicine in the Burleigh Heads – Miami area since 1988.
He enjoys all aspects of general practice with special interests in musculoskeletal disorders, diabetes, haemochromatosis, skin cancer and minor surgical procedures.
John’s wife Janine is an experienced midwife at Gold Coast University Hospital, with whom John often confers on obstetric matters related to his practice.
Dr. Kate Taylor
Dr Kate Taylor graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in UK in 1998 then travelled to NZ where she met her husband, Fraser, and completed her GP training.
Kate and her husband relocated permanently to the Gold Coast in 2013. Kate has 3 children, 2 of whom are at primary school.
Kate enjoys all aspects of General Practice, but her special interests are Women’s Health and Paediatrics.
Dr Vipul Patel
Dr Vipul Patel (BM MRCP(UK) MRCGP(UK) FRACGP(AUS)) is from the UK, having grown up in London and completing his medical training at Southampton University in 1992. He gained extensive hospital experience including Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), before embarking on a career in General Practice.
Dr Patel has 20 years of experience working as a full time GP. Initially in the UK as a partner in a large teaching practice in Oxfordshire before migrating to Australia with his wife and 2 children in 2009.
He has been working as a GP on the Gold Coast for 10 years. He enjoys all aspects of family medicine with particular interests in Men’s Health, Diabetes, Heart Disease and Hypertension, Child Health, Mental Health and Preventative Medicine.
Julie McLachlan - Pyschologist
Julie is a Registered Psychologist who has been providing psychological based services to children, adolescents and adults on the Gold Coast over the past 11 years. Julie has worked in community organisations, Griffith University and Queensland health. Julie is now working in private practice with adults and has experience with the treatment and management of depression, anxiety disorders, stress, anger, life transitions and parenting interventions. She has an interest in childhood experiences and how they can continue to shape experiences during adulthood. Julie uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy while drawing on attachment and developmental theories and mindfulness principles to tailor treatments to suit her client’s needs. She supports her clients with kindness and curiosity as they explore their life experiences, enhance their understanding of themselves (and their relationships) and overcome challenges.
Julie is available for appointments at Miami Village Medical Practice on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm. If you have any questions you can contact Julie on 0434 207 205.

Rick is the Managing Director of Miami Village Medical Practice. He has completed a Diploma in Professional Practice Management, is a member of the Australian Association of Practice Managers and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
